Pontiac introduced its fifth GTO in '68, and car-buyers were quick to appreciate the brand new body, which was three inches shorter, and included horizontal headlights and decal GTO emblems. It also marked the first year of availability for the Endura bumper. A 400-cid. 35-hp engine provided the standard giddy-up, and additional ponies were found in the 400 HO and Ram Air 400 engines, the latter being replaced during the year by the Ram Air II. Motor Trend magazine voted the model 1968 Car of the Year, and as Pontiac literature put it, "But with car like this, what did you expect?!"
