Developed by BMW Motorsport GmbH in 1984, the M (for Motorsport) 635CSi housed a 286 bhp version of the 24-valve 3.5 liter engine first seen in the BMW M1. In the US the cars were usually dubbed M6 although that badge was not officially recognized in Europe. The M 635 gave BMW a 150 mph coupe that could prowl the autobahns with pride. It was the first time that BMW had adopted the Michelin TRX matrix 390mm tires fitted to 2-piece alloy wheels. The car had standard Recaro front seats and a deeper front spoiler.
