When the Mustang coupe and convertible models were introduced at the New York Worlds Fair in April of 1964, the automotive buying public went crazy for its stylish long hood, short deck design. Less than a year later, Ford unleashed its Fastback 2+2 body style, proving that lightning can indeed strike twice!
The GT Equipment Group was introduced on 1965 Mustang Fastback models. and provided all the components for outstanding performance and looks to go with it. The GT options were available only in combination with the optional 225 hp or 271 hp High Performance V-8 engines. Other options were dual exhaust, special handling package, front wheel disc brakes, side racing stripes, MUSTANG inset in the racing stripes. Also included a GT emblem above the stripes, rocker panel is deleted, special fog lamps, grille bars and black grille.
