Designed in less than six months, the Firebird name was borrowed from a series of experimental gas turbine cars built by GM in the 1950's and 60's. The 1968 model Firebirds were marketed as a line of cars - five "packages" of various engines and options. The top of the line Firebird for 1968 was the Ram Air 400, as replicated here. Special features included heavy-duty engine components, functional hood scoops and air cleaner.
