The '86 model was almost identical to the 1985 Mustang GT 5.0. With '85 came a new front look with a four-square air damn under the front bumper and rectangular parking lights. The grill looked like the SVO grill and wide horizontal tail lights wrapped around the rear body corners. The '85 and '86 models proved that big V8 engines did have a future under the hood of the Mustang and the GT model was more popular due in part to costing about $5000 less than the SVO models. In 1986 came minor revisions like sound-deadening material, anti-corrosion warranty, and a single-key lock system.
